The Kraken

The Kraken started life as a 2008 Carrera Kraken 26″ hardtail. The goal of this build was to create a reliable and capable trail bike on a limited budget while keeping the original character of the bike.
The drivetrain was upgraded to a modern 1x setup using an 11–40T cassette and a 30T narrow-wide chainring, simplifying shifting and improving climbing performance. Hydraulic disc brakes were added to provide significantly better stopping power and modulation compared to the original setup. New cables and housing completed the refresh, ensuring smooth and reliable shifting.

The Road Revival

The Dawes Giro 300 was never intended to become a high-performance road bike. It was simply a neglected entry-level road bike found on Facebook Marketplace, showing the signs of years of use and minimal maintenance. The goal of this project was straightforward: bring the bike back to life and make it safe, reliable, and enjoyable to ride again without spending unnecessary money. A basic refresh including new cables, brake pads, chain, bar tape, and tires transformed the bike from a tired neglected machine into a clean and functional road bike ready for many more kilometers. Sometimes a project does not need expensive upgrades or exotic components. This build is a reminder that even a modest bicycle can be given a second chance with a little time, care, and a small budget.

The Time Capsule

Sometimes the best projects are the ones you least expect. This 1990s Specialized was discovered in a dusty barn, untouched and remarkably original. With its classic steel frame, factory components and authentic period-correct appearance, it was a true time capsule from the early days of mountain biking. I originally planned to keep it for myself, but the frame turned out to be too small. Rather than letting it sit unused, I carefully cleaned, serviced and preserved its original character before passing it on to a new owner who could enjoy it as it was meant to be ridden. Not every project is about upgrades and modifications. Sometimes the goal is simply to save a bicycle and let its history speak for itself.
